October 22, 2002 is a date to remember because on that date, 13 Franciscans, along with the late Rev Bro Michael Jacques, gathered together at La Salle Provincialate, Petaling Jaya and set about the task of forming a Franciscan Club to cater especially for all Franciscans dwelling and working in Kuala Lumpur and the Klang Valley. A Pro-tem Committee headed by Michael Chin Yan Siew was formed.

The Club was formally inaugurated in August 2005 with Academician Tan Sri Emeritus Professor Datuk Dr Augustine S H Ong as the first President.

We had a membership drive to recruit Franciscans as members and organised a fund-raising dinner in conjunction with the inauguration and also to commemorate the 125th Anniversary of our Alma Mater. It was also aimed to put the Club on a sound financial position as well as to render aid to our Alma Mater in its many needs.

Objectives
The objectives of the club are to foster the Franciscan ideal, to maintain close link with our beloved Alma Mater whilst at the same time having fellowship and mutual cooperation through the various activities organised by the Club.

Activities
Franciscan Club Kuala Lumpur (FCKL) organised a series of activities, events and projects covering fellowship of the members and Franciscans at large, social responsibility to the Alma Mater, promoting the Lasallian network and also charity.

FCKL took the initiative to organize Career Talks for the school leavers. The objective of the event is to give them a better insight of the working world. The future direction of this project is to get a broader spectrum of speakers to cater for different interests.

FCKL also organized Talk Series to promote knowledge where key opinion leaders of respected fields like economics, management, finance, health etc are invited to share the latest know-how and information.

Our Military Band Boys and some teachers were sponsored by FCKL to take part in the Merdeka Celebration March Past through Taiping town on August 31, 2015 in conjunction with St George’s Institution Centennial celebration.  Our boys also took part in the Leadership Seminar in SGI that was part of the event.
FCKL sponsored the Lasallian Expedition & Development (LEAD) Camp organised by La Salle Centre in Pantai Kundor. It is an outdoor camp to bring together boys from poor background to have fun and learn from planned activities. The objectives:
Develop the students’ confidence in themselves.
• Provide them the tools to cope with their everyday interactions with their peers.
• Provide students a relaxed atmosphere where fun and open interactions and introspective reflections take place.
FCKL also sponsored the Annual National Lasallian Youth Convention held at La Salle Centre, Ipoh. This program targets all Lasallian schools in Malaysia and Singapore. It provides quality training for a team of leaders from each schools who on returning will provide effective leadership at student level for their respective schools.
Franciscan Club Kuala Lumpur holds a fellowship dinner every two years in Kuala Lumpur to bring together our old boys residing in Klang Valley.

Other Lasallian Alumni Associations are also invited to attend to share this wealth of knowledge with FCKL and at the same time promotes fellowship and goodwill amongst the Lasallian family
